The UIL Baseball season is nearing its conclusion, and several teams are one step away from hoisting a state championship trophy. Lake Travis and Aledo punched their tickets to the state finals, while Keller, Dripping Springs, and Tomball forced decisive Game 3 matchups. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated series between Lake Creek and Rouse continues to heat up as championship weekend approaches.
Lake Travis Pummels Summer Creek 6AD1
Lake Travis became one of the biggest stories of the week after sweeping Summer Creek in the 6A Division I state semifinals. The Cavaliers wasted no time setting the tone in Game 1, jumping out to a huge first-inning lead behind patient at-bats, aggressive baserunning, and a dominant outing from Cooper Webb. Lake Travis followed it up with a 9-2 win in Game 2, sending the Cavaliers to the state championship game for the first time in program history.
In the other 6A Division I semifinal, Keller and Rockwall are headed to a decisive Game 3. Rockwall took the opener behind a strong pitching performance from Hudson Holt and timely fifth-inning offense, but Keller answered back to keep its season alive. The winner will face Lake Travis for the state title.
Keller Forces Game 3 vs Rockwall 6AD1
In the other 6A Division I semifinal, Keller and Rockwall are headed to a decisive Game 3. Rockwall took the opener behind a strong pitching performance from Hudson Holt and timely fifth-inning offense, but Keller answered back to keep its season alive. The winner will face Lake Travis for the state title.
Houston Memorial and Dripping Springs Will Play For A Game 3 6AD2
Dripping Springs put up a valiant fight against Houston Memorial's hard-throwing Texas commit, Grant Sperandio, but couldn't contain the Mustangs' high-powered offense at the University of Houston. Memorial managed to score in every single inning. The Tigers actually briefly held a 2-1 lead in the second inning after drawing walks and capitalizing on a sacrifice bunt, a grounder from Bobby Wilkinson, and an RBI single from Hayden Smith.
The game featured a bizarre moment in the bottom of the second when Memorial's Dillon Norris hit an apparent 3-run home run but forgot to touch home plate during the celebration and was called out. Ultimately, it didn't hurt the Mustangs; Norris bounced back with two more hits, and Jake Earnest blasted a 3-run double to help secure the win. The Tigers threatened by drawing 8 walks and getting the tying run to the plate in the 6th, but three double plays killed their momentum. Dripping Springs then came back in game 2 and ended the Memorial 23 game winning streak, with Cruz McBride hitting an RBI single so the Tigers could strike, followed by a Madeley RBI on 3-2 count to give Tigers the first lead of the series.
Aledo advances to State Championship 5AD1
In 5A Division I, Aledo delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the postseason. Trailing McKinney North late, the defending state champions erupted in the seventh inning, highlighted by Lucas Nawrocki’s go-ahead grand slam. McKinney North threatened again in the bottom half, but Aledo escaped with a double play to return to the state championship game.
Argyle Leads Series 1-0 5AD2
Argyle opened its 5A Division II semifinal series with a tight 2-1 win over Lovejoy behind a complete-game effort from Jack Snakenberg. Lovejoy had chances, including a bases-loaded opportunity in the fourth inning, but Argyle’s defense made the key plays when it mattered most. The Eagles moved one win away from the state title game.
