North Crowley five-star cornerback John Meredith III has announced his commitment to Texas, giving the Longhorns another major addition to their future secondary.
Meredith selected Texas over fellow finalists Texas A&M and Alabama after one of the nation’s most closely watched recruitments. The Longhorns generated considerable momentum during the final stretch of his recruitment following his official visit, ultimately landing one of the country’s highest-rated defensive backs.
Prior to naming his final three schools, Meredith had also included Miami, Notre Dame, and Ohio State among his finalists.
One of the nation’s premier defensive prospects, Meredith earned more than 40 Division I scholarship offers throughout his recruitment. His offer sheet featured several traditional college football powers, including Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, and Texas A&M.
Although his college decision is now complete, Meredith’s eligibility for the 2026 Texas high school football season has yet to be determined. The North Crowley standout was ruled ineligible by the District 11-6A Executive Committee following his transfer and maintains the ability to appeal the decision through the UIL.
With his commitment now official, Texas adds another blue-chip defensive prospect as Meredith prepares for the next chapter of his football career.
